From our neighbourhood to yours
Husband and wife duo, Jacinta nad Greg Penn, live in a horticultural area, surrounded by sheep, dairy, crop fields and greenhouses.
They have watched the crop growers struggling with housing competition, weather extremes and labour shortages.
For her Masters in Future Technologies, Jacinta chose to study vertical farming and recognised it as having great potential to buffer against weather extremes. However she was concerned at the lack of sustainable alternatives for growing media.
Many experiments later, she and husband Greg have created a new prototype product which they are bringing to commercial trial. The support they have had from wool farmers and growers has been immense and they are excited (if somewhat intimidated) at the potential.
Growing Trials
We are currently working with experienced growers to trial our prototypes. With every success (and failure), we are able to refine further.
Following you will see a series of images from our tomato trial with Turners & Growers. The roots took easily, the stems grew thick and strong and the plants produced well. We had three different prototypes in the trial and one was a clear winner with comments from the team saying terere was a negligible difference to their current rockwool system.
We are also trialing with a variety of plants and automated systems so we can confirm which works best in wool. We have requests from Australia, America and Mexico to do trials.

Other potential products
While we are focussed on wool as a growing media, we're very aware of the fertiliser potential of wool. So we are exporing a options to bring out a 'Liquid Wool' fertiliser for a natural extra nitrogen boost and a bacteria free pellet using scoured wool.
We also have fielded several requests to use our blocks for other ideas such as floral foam and packaging inserts to replace hard plastic foam.
